What has happened?

The Port Adelaide Football Club has proposed to redevelop facilities at Alberton Oval.

The main land parcel at Alberton Oval is owned by Council and managed through a Community Land Management Plan.

Portions of Alberton Oval are currently leased and licenced to the Port Adelaide Football Club.

The proposed redevelopment and use of the land would require changes to the Community Land Management Plan adopted for this land.

What is happening next?

Under the Local Government Act, any community land owned by Council must be managed through a Community Land Management Plan.

A Community Land Management Plan determines how the Council uses and manages this community land for the betterment and enjoyment of the community.

Under the Local Government Act, Council must consult with community regarding proposed changes to a Community Land Management Plan. The Act also requires Council to consult the community before granting a lease for a term greater than 5 years over community land.

Consultation will commence once revised plans have been submitted to Council by the Port Adelaide Football Club.

Council's commitment to consultation

At the April 2021 Council Meeting, Council decided to undertake community consultation on

  • a new Community Land Management Plan for Alberton Oval; and
  • a proposal to grant a long-term Lease to the Port Adelaide Football Club.
