Each year our City spends over $100,000 on fireworks and related expenses across three main events. These include the Christmas Twilight Parade at Port Adelaide, and New Year’s Eve and Australia Day at Semaphore. Both locations are close to residential areas as well as the Port Adelaide Dolphin Sanctuary and the Adelaide International Bird Sanctuary.

We also provide some financial support and permits for two to three other events which feature fireworks, such as Christmas carols, which occur on Council land but are organised by other community groups.

Fireworks events on private land must receive a permit from Safework SA, a State government agency.

While fireworks have been used in events for many years we are aware they bring both benefits and challenges. We also know that community views about fireworks change over time. To help us make decisions about the future use of fireworks – by Council or other event organisers on Council owned land, we are keen to hear the views of people that live, work and play in the City of Port Adelaide Enfield.
